P.C. Chandra Puraskaar

The PC Chandra Puraskaar has been instituted to commemorate the spirit of excellence that our Founder Father, Shri Purna Chandra Chandra believed in. His birthday is a celebration of excellence by honouring the greats of India.

For 32 years, the PC Chandra Puraskaar has been given away to eminent personalities of our country for their outstanding achievement.

The award carries an honorarium of Rs.20,00,000/-(Rupees Twenty lakhs only) which is tax exempt.     

The P C Chandra Puraskaar has been awarded to the Chairman of ISRO Shri S Somanath (2024), the magnificent World Boxing Champion Smt. Mary Kom (2023), sarod maestro Ustad Amjad Ali Khan(2022), cricketer Kapil Dev (2020-21), Dr Devi Prasad Shetty (2019), Smt Asha Bhosle (2018), Nobel Laureate Sri Kailash Satyarthi (2017) for social work on child rights and education, Sri Sunil Monohar Gavaskar, the living legend of International cricket, GrandMaster Vishwanathan Anand, sprint queen Smt. P.T.Usha, Manna Dey, Prof.U.R.Rao, the Scientist and the then Chairman of ISRO and Chairman of Planning Commission, Pandit Bhimsen Joshi, the legend of Indian classical music, Sri Gulzar ji, the celebrated  lyricist, Smt. Mahasweta Devi, eminent writer and recipient of the International Award ‘Magsaysay’ for her outstanding contribution in social welfare and literature, Sri Prakash Padukone, the legendary badminton player, Prof. Ashima Chatterjee, an eminent scientist, Bharat Ratna Ustad Bismillah Khan, the Shehnai Maestro, Sri Soumitra Chattopadhyay, famous actor and the recipient of “Chevalier Des Arts Et Des Metiers” from Government of France, Pandit Jasraj, the legendary vocalist in Hindustani classical music, santoor maestro Pt. Shivkumar Sharma, , Shri Mrinal Sen, International  Film Maker, eminent cricketer Shri Sourav Ganguly,  National Award winning actor Shri Mithun Chakraborty, Smt. Hema Malini, eminent flutist Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, among others.

While stalwarts from various fields have been the recipients, the PC Chandra Puraskaar award ceremony has been graced by eminent Chief Guests such as Honb’le Governors of West Bengal – Shri Tribhuban Narayan Singh, Shri Viren J Shah, Shri M K Narayanan, Shri Keshari Nath Tripathi, the Honb’le Chief Justice of  High Court of Kolkata, Chairman Human Rights Commission, Former Lok Sabha Speaker - Shri Somnath Chattopadhyay, Former Chief Justice of India - Justice Altamas Kabir and others.
